We were not happy with the first design

This site started with ideas from Gemini and Claude, and a lot of movement. We were not happy with it. Here is what we built first and what we threw away.

Several dark glass tablets with glowing gold icons floating crowded and slightly out of line above a desk, beside a crumpled sheet of paper.

On 26 October 2026 this site did not exist yet. By the end of that afternoon it had animated tabs, a showcase that stayed in place while you scrolled, a strip of project cards that slid sideways, and animated pill-shaped buttons for our services. We were not happy with any of it.

This is the story of that first version, and of why we kept changing it.

Key points

  • We started this site on 26 October 2026, with ideas from Gemini and Claude.
  • The first two days were full of movement: a showcase that stays in place while you scroll, a sliding strip, animated tabs.
  • We were not happy with it, so we kept changing it, and the sliding strip was removed.
  • We had the time because the first test version (beta) of Tziyun B’Rega was being tested.

How it started

BotKB is the studio behind Tziyun B’Rega, Shapi-Lumda and Kadish Yatom. This site had to show that work to people who have never heard of us, and we wanted it to look like a studio that cares about details.

We began where many people begin now: we asked AI tools for ideas. Gemini (opens in a new tab) and Claude (opens in a new tab) both gave us plenty.

We had the time because the first test version (beta) of Tziyun B’Rega had just gone into testing. While the testers worked, we could finally spend a few days on our own site, and on how it looks.

The first afternoon

We asked for a lot, and it was built quickly:

  • the site in two languages, English and Hebrew, from the start;
  • tabs that split the content into sections;
  • a showcase where the tabs stayed in place while you scrolled;
  • a strip of project cards that slid sideways under your mouse;
  • animated pill-shaped buttons for our services, replacing a plain grid we found boring.

Each of these was built within hours of the one before.

A second try

The next day, around midday, we replaced the whole look with a redesign from Gemini, rebuilt as separate pages for each language instead of one page that moves. We gave the cards a light that travelled around their edge, then changed it into a round glow that stays still.

Still not happy

We had plenty of ideas and plenty of movement, and still we were not happy.

What finally changed things was a picture. We tell that part in One picture changed the whole site.

What we threw away

We even built a second version of the sliding strip. It was removed for good on the evening of 27 October.

If you are building something and nothing feels right, adding more is not always the way out. For us it was one picture.

Two days, in order
  1. 26 October 2026The site is started, in English and Hebrew

  4. 27 October 2026The home page is rebuilt around one picture
